The Department is led by Peter James Carroll, Past Grandmaster of the IOT Pact, BSc, PGCE, Company Director,Chancellor Of Arcanorium College, and author of Liber Null and Psychonaut; Liber Kaos, the Psychonomicon; and also Psybermagick.

He has played a seminal role in the development of the theory and practice of Chaos Magic and has led internet seminars on Chaos Magic and Magic for Business.

The Department will offer courses in Chaos Magic which attempts to distil ideas and techniques from many of the traditional sources of magic into a modern synthesis and to develop explanatory theories in terms of contemporary scientific knowledge and speculation.

In chaos magic, the actual practical techniques for doing magic assume far more importance than any of the traditional symbolisms that adepts over the ages have used to rationalize their ideas. Thus chaos magic does not depend on any particular religious beliefs, and it keeps an open mind about the ultimate metaphysical structure of reality. It suggests that we should regard belief not as an end in itself but as an experimental tool for achieving results.

In chaos magic the basic techniques are divided up into Enchantment, Divination, Evocation, Invocation, and Illumination, and we will look at how each of these techniques was used in aeons past and how we can adapt them for use today.

We shall have a look at everything from how to cast spells and how to develop psychism to techniques for liberating genius and inspiration.

The department will initially offer courses in Basic Chaos Magic, Metaphysical Physics (exploring the Psychohistoric changes in esoteric thought through the aeons), and Chaos Magic in Business for those seeking to start private enterprises. Advanced courses in other areas of magic and alternative science will follow.

The alternative science courses will focus on cutting edge cosmology and quantum theory, where despite the gloss put on these subjects by public scientists, ideas are in a state of considerable flux, if not outright confusion and self contradiction. We shall look at both conventional and unconventional hypotheses about how the universe works.
