The Department of Mind, Money and Magic is headed by Dave Lee. Dave has been a main mover in the IOT since the earliest days, and is currently Section Sponsor for the British Isles IOT Section. Dave?s published work includes Chaotopia!, The Wealth Magick Workbook and Magical Incenses, as well as audio CDs and magical fiction. He is an experienced teacher with an Adult Teaching certificate (C&G 7407, Part 2).
The Department seeks to open up the fertile ground between pragmatic psychology and a Chaos-type magical approach, taking useful insights from new approaches to old magical situations. The emphasis initially is on pragmatic sorcery for wealth ? a course on Wealth and Money Magic ? and on exploring new models of mental processing alongside accepted magical practice to enhance magical power ? NLP For Magicians.
After my father told me as a small child that magic didn?t exist (I can still remember the numb shock) I decided to study physical science as a kind of second best. I fell in love with that particular intellectual adventure, and gained a degree in biomolecular science.
I began regular practical magickal work in the late 70s, so what I started off with was Crowley-style Qabalah, then rapidly discovered Liber Null. The world view of chaos magic was the closest to my basic position I had ever found. However, whilst the postmodern scepticism of Chaos Magick is my most natural position on sorcery, any reader of my work will see the romantic and questing side, where the central idea is of the quest for the mystery as the dynamic of everyday life. There are always unknown dimensions to life, where the Faustian scientific project is overwhelmed by the Mystery.
Over the next few years I experimented with a range of magical techniques and ideas. In 1980-82 I was a founder member of the first IOT Chaos Magic group in the country, in West Yorkshire. From 1984 I was a founder member of its immediate successor, the so-called Circle of Chaos. This was dissolved in ?87, and I worked solo for 4 years. I returned to the IOT at the 1991 World Meeting in Lockenhaus, Austria. I have been intensively involved as an organizer in the IOT ever since. In ?93 I qualified as a breathwork professional, coaching in the style called vivation. Over the years I have developed my own style of connected breathwork, which I still teach. Breathwork and psychedelic gnosis are the most powerful bases for what I call Body Alchemy, the art of stretching the rules of biology.
In ?97 I qualified as a Practitioner in NLP.
In 1996 I joined the RuneGild and began a serious study of the Northern mysteries. I am working on a book of stories and essays on the Northern myths. I have appeared in more occult and underground magazines than I care to remember and edited issues 3 and 4 of Chaos International magazine.
I have presented countless workshops and talks in the UK, USA and mainland Europe.
